Four months ahead of a pivotal mayoral election in New Orleans, Helena Moreno is the early favorite to win the race, according to a poll commissioned by the New Orleans Crime Coalition. Nearly half of registered voters who participated in the survey said they would be most likely to vote for the city councilmember come October 11. Fellow Councilmember Oliver Thomas followed behind, with 22% of respondents naming him as their likely choice.

Gary Price, one of 10 inmates who escaped the Orleans Parish jail on May 16, was arraigned Monday in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on counts of attempted murder and battery. Price, 21, is being held at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola following his recapture, but he appeared in person wearing an orange jumpsuit as Criminal District Judge Kimya Holmes ordered him to be held without bail.
