Memorial Hermann Health System is reactivating its liver transplant program, one year after a surgeon's improper data manipulations prompted the hospital to stop all abdominal transplant operations, the health system announced Saturday. Dr. Mark Hobeika, a former transplant surgeon at Houston Methodist Hospital, will take over as the hospital's abdominal transplant program director and chief of immunology and organ transplantation at UTHealth Houston, the hospital system said.

The national organ transplant system has leveled its most severe sanction against Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center following revelations that a liver transplant surgeon improperly manipulated its transplant database.
