The former Republican lieutenant governor has held office for just 78 days, since filling the unexpired term of Vice President JD Vance. Husted is under time pressure to start a campaign because his appointment expires next year. The winner of the fall 2026 election will serve a full six-year Senate term.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio has adopted the 1905 Wright Flyer III as its official state airplane. Described as Orville and Wilbur Wright’s crowning achievement, the world’s first practical fixed-wing aircraft made its seminal sustained flight in an Ohio cow pasture called Huffman Prairie, outside Dayton. A grandniece to the pioneering Ohio brothers, Amanda Wright Lane, testified in February that the 1905 plane was “their Tesla,” and represented the beginning of a human flight plan to Mars.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Students, teachers and civil rights groups are calling on Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to veto legislation that would ban diversity, equity and inclusion programs and make other sweeping changes to public colleges and universities in the state. The bill arrived on DeWine’s desk Wednesday, according to a spokesperson, giving him 10 days excepting Sundays to either sign it, veto it or allow it to become law without his signature.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown launched a pro-worker organization on Monday to promote the “Dignity of Work,” a creed that he has advanced for years as an officeholder and candidate and that he recently described in a national magazine column as the key to the future of the Democratic Party. The non-partisan Dignity of Work Institute will be based in the state capital of Columbus, where he and wife Connie Schultz, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, moved last week.
