Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Water is best, of course, because alcohol and some soft drinks can actually leave you dehydrated. Take frequent breaks from the sun and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. Wear loose and lightweight clothing. Always look before you lock your vehicle. Never leave a child or pet inside of a vehicle where temperatures can reach deadly levels in minutes on a hot day.

An almost picture-perfect weekend is in view for Houston after a week of warm and muggy weather marked by downpours and several rounds of strong storms. Whether you’re planning on a Mother’s Day brunch outside or a walk through any of Houston’s many parks, this weekend may be one of the final mild weekends before summer-like heat swells into Southeast Texas.

After an unsettled week of storms and occasionally heavy rainfall in the Houston metro area, a mostly dry weekend is shaping up in time for Mother's Day. Will the rest of Texas enjoy similarly nice weather? Texas forecast: Dry, not too warmOne feature in the upper atmosphere worth monitoring closely is a system of low atmospheric pressure system, cut off from the main flow of the jet stream, that is likely to be centered east of Texas, along the Gulf Coast, on Saturday.

Houston and much of Harris County have picked up an inch or two of much-needed rain since late last week after repeated rounds of heavy rainfall and storms. The southward trend of heavy rainfall actually began Wednesday, but it’s expected to continue into Thursday before rain chances become more hit-or-miss across the region. An active radar early this morning, mainly for areas south of I-10.

Flood alerts have come to an end across most of Southeast Texas following heavy rainfall Tuesday, but the risk of flooding isn’t completely over in the Houston metro area. More storms through Wednesday afternoon will keep the risk of localized flash flooding going, especially near and south of Interstate 10. Despite the rain, we’re almost out of the wet weather pattern in time for Mother’s Day weekend.

Storms woke me up early this morning (thankfully only 40 minutes before my alarm was set to go off). How long will they last? My full @HoustonChron forecast can be found here: https://t.co/iLFGXmnVOX https://t.co/vO3h6UOOCF

A proposed fiscal year 2026 budget would cut more than $1.5 billion from NOAA, especially oceanic and atmospheric research. According to reports from CNN and Politico, this could greatly affect the local Gulf ecosystem. Gifted @HoustonChron link here: https://t.co/dGpM0N4FDB
