    The University Place Creative District will launch its 2025 Makers Market Sunday with an expanded street fair featuring nearly 60 local vendors, artists and student entrepreneurs. The 2025 kickoff event expands the market to two full blocks along St. Paul Avenue, from North 47th to 49th streets. The event is free and open to the public and runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and Oct. 19.

She was one of the few cosmetologists in Lincoln during Myssy Brown's upbringing specializing in styling Black hair, and her salon became a haven where people gathered not only to get their hair done, but to connect, share stories, seek support and find joy. Myssy Brown said people from all walks of life would go to her mom to get their hair done, from church ladies to exotic dancers.

    Lincoln police arrested a 46-year-old Lincoln man accused of giving a 17-year-old girl drugs and sexually assaulting her, according to court records. Peder Laumer was arrested Thursday for felony child abuse, possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. In an affidavit for Laumer's arrest, Lincoln police say they were contacted by a Lincoln Public Schools social worker on April 28 after a 17-year-old girl reported Laumer gave her drugs and sexually assaulted her.

    A 39-year-old Lincoln native died in a two-vehicle crash last month just east of Columbus. Platte County Sheriff Edward Wemhoff said Dylan Wall was driving a 1988 Ford F-150 north on East 59th Avenue just after 8 p.m. on April 22. As he was crossing U.S. 30, he was struck by a 2006 GMC pickup truck heading west on U.S. 30 driven by Manuel Martinez. Wall was thrown from the pickup and died from his injuries at Columbus Community Hospital.

    Pine Lake Road between South 27th and 29th streets will closed for several weeks starting Monday for a street improvement project funded by the city's quarter-cent sales tax program for roads.
