EAST LANSING, MI — New U.S. tariffs and retaliatory tariffs imposed on new vehicles sold in the U.S. would add tariff cost burdens of between $2,000 to $15,000 to some vehicles, according to an analysis by an East Lansing consultant group. Anderson Economic Group published a report on the impacts of the latest tariff-related proclamations by the administration of President Donald Trump, who last week announced plans to relax some of his planned 25% tariffs on autos and auto parts.

SAGINAW, MI — Residents could receive their first look at Saginaw City Hall’s 2025-26 fiscal year budget this week. The Saginaw City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Saginaw City Hall, 1315 S. Washington. Among the meeting’s agenda items: An overview of the proposed budget, provided by Yolanda Bland, director of Saginaw’s Office of Management and Budget. The preview is part of the yearly process of crafting a new budget, which the council ultimately approves or adjusts.

SAGINAW, MI — Nearby residents and motorist passersby in recent months may have noticed a new, towering window-less structure taking up real estate and some of the skyline in a southeast Saginaw neighborhood. Still in an active construction zone, the concrete facility is a 160-foot, 3-million-gallon water storage tank that is on schedule to begin operating as early as late December, officials said.

THOMAS TOWNSHIP, MI — A familiar face will serve as the next leader of the Swan Valley School District. The district’s board of education hired Alison Cicinelli to take on the superintendent role beginning in July. She has served as the district’s assistant superintendent for two years. Cicinelli will replace Superintendent Mat McRae, who has led the district since 2013. He announced his planned retirement earlier this year.
