SAGINAW, MI — Catholic parishioners in Saginaw will attend a ceremony with extra meaning this weekend. Diocese of Saginaw officials will transform the weekly 5 p.m. Sunday, May 11, Mass at Cathedral of Mary the Assumption, 625 Owen in Saginaw, into a celebration of the election of Pope Leo XIV as the 267th leader of the Catholic Church. The diocese’s leader, Bishop Robert Gruss, will preach in his homily about the new pope, elected Thursday, May 8.

SAGINAW, MI — State officials this month launched a corridor study to identify transportation needs and ways to enhance mobility along a busy stretch of roadway spanning parts of Saginaw and Buena Vista Township. Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials said they will study parts of M-13 and its transition into M-81, also known as Washington Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

SAGINAW, MI — Later this month, officials plan to relocate public meetings typically hosted at Saginaw City Hall because of renovations at the municipal headquarters. Beginning with the 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, meeting, the Saginaw City Council instead will gather at Andersen Enrichment Center, 120 Ezra Rust. Residents unable to attend the meetings can still watch the gatherings televised live on Charter Spectrum’s channel 191; or on the city’s YouTube channel.

LANSING, MI — President Donald Trump received poor ratings from 600 participants in a Michigan poll conducted last week. EPIC-MRA, a Lansing-based poll firm, published a report showing 50% of participants rated Trump as “unfavorable” compared to 43% who viewed the president as “favorable,” the report read. Another question on the survey revealed 56% of participants rated Trump negatively when asked to assess his work as president so far.
