By A person has fired shots at officers during an early morning standoff in Wilmington, police said. Wilmington Police Department is on the scene of a suspect barricaded inside their home on the 4800 block of Whitner Drive, officials said. A man is dead after getting into a shootout with deputies at a hospital early Tuesday, the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office said. Shortly after 1 a.m., deputies said the Sentara Albemarle Medical Center called for help when a man entered the emergency room armed with a gun and pointing it at multiple ER personnel. A hospital security guard tried to subdue him, investigators said, but the man struck the guard with the gun, injuring him.
