LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Two people were taken to a local hospital after an accident in the Heights area early Thursday morning, August 8. Police were called to the crash at Clark Boulevard and Bartlett Avenue just before 6 a.m. They found two vehicles involved in the accident. ZAPATA, Tex. (KGNS) - A new study by a doctoral student at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and an associate professor of Criminal Justice highlights criminal activity in the South Texas border town of Zapata. Zapata County Judge Joe Rathmell described the town as generally peaceful. “Raising a family here in Zapata is certainly something that we enjoy and certainly something I would consider a safe community to raise your kids in,” Rathmell said.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - As Laredo-area students enjoy their last week of summer vacation, teachers and staff at local schools are getting ready for the new academic year. Monday morning, August 5, about 100 teachers and paraprofessionals met at JC Martin Elementary School for their first workday. They went over procedures, safety rules, and began setting up their classrooms. Arianna Perez Gonzalez, a fourth-grade teacher at JC Martin Elementary, said this is just the start of the preparation process.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - From January to July 30, the City of Laredo responded to 80 attempted suicide calls. While the number of completed suicides has decreased this year, efforts to address the issue continue. As of July 30, 12 suicides have occurred in Laredo. Julie Bazan, chair of the Suicide Prevention Committee, highlighted the importance of seeking help.
