LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Border Patrol agents in Laredo caught six people trying to cross into the U.S. illegally along the north side of town. The group was spotted swimming across the Rio Grande, with some wearing life jackets and one on a floating device. The Border Patrol said the message is clear: the border is not open, and agents are keeping a close watch on the area. No further details about the people involved have been shared. City leaders may agree to work with the state to use land near or along the bridge for a new border barrier. LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - If you didn’t finish high school for any reason, United ISD is assisting former students in obtaining their diplomas. The district collaborated with Laredo College to establish the Bridge Academy for individuals aged 18 to 26 who wish to graduate. The classes will be held at LC’s south campus located at 5500 Zapata Hwy. If time permits, students may earn a technical certification. Support is also available for qualifying parents in the program.
