Justin RiesStaff WriterThe men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams held their first home meet of the year on Saturday morning at the La Verne Aquatic Center with a dual meet against Redlands. La Verne is coming off losses in both the men’s and women’s sides against Lewis and Clark in Portland, Oregon, on Oc. 18. The men’s team lost, 128-47, and the women’s team lost, 103-78. La Verne’s teams are both young going into this year. On the women’s side, they have one senior, Lindsey Habegger.

Justin RiesStaff WriterThe men’s soccer team defeated Whittier, 4-1, on Wednesday at Ortmayer Stadium. This was the final game for La Verne in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2024 season. Whittier started with the ball in the first half. They tried to play it in deep, but graduate student defender Oscar Mendoza was able to stop the deep ball and draw a foul, which led to a yellow card for Whittier in the first six seconds.

Justin RiesStaff WriterThe men’s water polo team faced off against Chapman on Wednesday at the La Verne Aquatic Center looking to avenge a loss to the Panthers earlier in the season. La Verne and Chapman faced off in the Loyola Marymount Mini-Tournament on Sept. 7, when the Panthers won, 18-9. This time around the result was the same, although the score was closer. La Verne fell to Chapman, 19-15.

Justin RiesStaff WriterThe University held an Academic Exploration Fair Tuesday in the Abraham Campus Center. The Fair was designed for newer students who have yet to choose a major. Professors from the various programs and majors were on hand to share and answer questions. “I (showed up) to learn as much as I can about the other departments on campus and see if I have any interest in changes,” sophomore kinesiology major Lucas Aguilera said.

Justin RiesStaff WriterThe Leopards’ women’s soccer team faced off against the Norco Mustangs in an exhibition game Aug. 21 to kick off their 2024 season. The Leopards were 4-8-5 last year with a record of 2-6-4 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Leopards came out strong, steamrolling Norco into an 8-0 win. The Leopards dominated the first half, controlling the ball on both offense and defense.
