Garden dormice found dead were collected from almost the complete known range of the species in Germany as part of a German-wide project called “In Search of the Garden Dormouse” [47]. Coordinated by employees of the non-governmental organization “Friends of the Earth Germany”, mainly citizen scientist volunteers sampled garden dormouse carcasses found dead in gardens, on public property, in traps, in nest boxes or brought home by cats.

To investigate the histopathological features of the temporalis muscle (TM) and adjacent nerve tissue in active cranial giant cell arteritis (C-GCA). Temporal artery biopsy (TAB) specimens containing fragments of the TM from patients with active C-GCA fulfilling the 2022 ACR/EULAR classification criteria (n = 11) were assessed by conventional histology and immunohistochemistry in comparison with non-GCA controls (n = 3).

Clinical trials are the most important method for gaining new insights into the connection between medical treatments, environmental influences, and other factors on people’s health. Furthermore, only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) can provide conclusive evidence for causal effectiveness of new drugs and medical procedures on health. As the main link in the chain of evidence, RCTs are crucial for translating scientific results from basic research to clinical application [1, 2].

In the frame of this study, seven Ceratitis capitata strains were used (Table 1) and reared under standard laboratory conditions (24 ± 2 °C, 55 ± 10% RH, and 14/10 h light/dark cycle) as previously reported in Sollazzo et al., 2022 [17].
