DUBUQUE, Iowa — Dubuque emergency responders are preparing for an event they hope to never get the call for: a plane crash. A disaster drill on Thursday at the Dubuque Regional Airport allowed responders and officials to test the systems in place in a realistic environment. The drill is federally mandated and is completed every three years.

A pregnant woman says she's glad to be alive after bullets struck her home during a shots fired incident in southeast Cedar Rapids. Her home is just one of the multiple houses that were hit by gunfire on Tuesday night. Elizabeth Navarro is about a month away from giving birth, and she said she was sitting on her couch when bullets came blasting in, just feet away from her.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Residents at a senior living community are speaking up after hearing about a new proposal to build a 92-unit apartment complex in southwest Cedar Rapids. Retirees filled the council chambers in City Hall last Thursday as the City Planning Commission held its meeting. The proposed complex, led by Talon Development out of South Dakota, would be built across the street from Prairie Gardens Cooperative on Stone Circle Court near Highway 30 and Williams Boulevard.

The central theme of the address focused on the district's four priorities: creating a safe and secure learning environment, getting students prepared for life, partnering with parents and staff, and being fiscally responsible.
