IOWA CITY, Iowa — Residents from local manufactured home parks say their quality of life has declined after out-of-state ownership took over three Johnson County communities. Utah-based Havenpark Communities has been met with pushback over the past few years, with it owning Lake Ridge Estates, Modern Manor, and Sunrise Village parks. Neighbors own their homes, but they pay a monthly rent to the landowners. Back in January, Modern Manor went without running water for days.

Tue, June 17th 2025 at 10:13 AMSWISHER, Iowa — Iowans paid $68 million more in tariffs compared to one year ago, a new report released Tuesday by Farmers for Free Trade finds. Business and agricultural leaders are discussing the impact and findings at a town hall in Swisher. Data from Trade Partnership Worldwide shows there was a 304% increase in total tariffs in April 2025 compared to April 2024, despite a 10% decline in import values.

A new Iowa law adds a new option for people in training to become a barber or cosmetologist in the state. New establishment training programs give permission for people to learn under supervision of an experienced provider, allowing trainees to perform services on clients without a license and without having to go to school. Governor Kim Reynolds signed it into law on June 6. The new training is in addition to existing educational opportunities.
