The Manhattan High girls’ 4x100-meter relay team lit up the track at the 6A state championships on over the weekend, breaking the state meet record with a jaw-dropping time of 46.73 seconds in the prelims. The foursome — Sarah Oberreuter, Hannah Pellant, Michelle Jeje, and Harli Omli — not only shattered the meet record but further cemented their legacy as the fastest relay team Kansas has ever seen. “It just feels amazing,” Pellant said.

WICHITA — It was an unforgettable weekend for the Manhattan girls’ track team, finishing Class 6A runner-up with 64 points. It came down to the final event, but Shawnee-Mill Valley edged them out with 70 points. “It was a total team effort,” head coach Kory Cool said. “We did what we came to do, which was get on the podium for the first time in 23 years. You just can’t ask for anything more.”Senior sprinter Harli Omli led the way, putting up a historic performance across the board.

WICHITA — After finishing 2nd last year, Slade Smith had one goal in the Class 4A high jump — grabbing that gold medal. The senior did just that, jumping 6-feet, 9 inches to bring home a first-place finish for Wamego. “It feels amazing to be a state champion,” Smith said. “I mean, I knew I could and was going to do it, but it still feels amazing to be on the podium.”Smith, who is signed to continue his track and field career at Washburn, jumped a personal best and school record.

Kamden [email protected] the regular season behind the Kansas State baseball team, head coach Pete Hughes and the team have turned their focus to the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats were selected to travel to Texas and compete in the Austin regional on Monday, and will be joined by host school Texas (42-12), along with Texas-San Antonio (44-13) and Houston Christian (32-23). “One through four, it’s a real solid tournament,” Hughes said.

Manhattan High girls’ soccer advance on to the regional championship after a 4-1 victory over Wichita East on Tuesday night. The Indians (9-8) got off to a fast start, putting two goals away in the first 15 minutes. Evelynn Thornburg knocked in a shot off a corner kick, making it 1-0. Olivia Stuckwisch followed five minutes later with a goal of her own, giving Manhattan a nice early lead. “It was a great start,” head coach Mike Sanchez said.
