ASHEVILLE - A month after the uber-popular Blue Ridge Parkway closed in the wake of Tropical Storm Helene's wrath, a section has reopened Wednesday, Oct. 23. The 20-mile section now open to traffic is in the northern end of the North Carolina side of the parkway, from Milepost 285.5, at Bamboo Gap, to Milepost 305, near Beacon Heights, in the Blowing Rock area, according to a post on the parkway's Facebook page.

The funeral for Crystal Cauley, a beloved member of the Hendersonville community, will take place June 29 at Grace Lutheran Church, according to her son, Tyrese Cauley, who also confirmed his mother's cause of death according to her death certificate. Cauley, who started the Black Business Network of Western North Carolina, died June 16 at her home. She was 44. Tyrese Cauley told the Times-News his mother's funeral is open to family and friends.
