NO ONE EVER thinks a brain injury will happen to them, but it people in this country each year – that’s 52 people every single day. Globally, neurological conditions – including acquired brain injury (ABI) – are now the leading cause of ill health and disability. Brain injuries happen overnight. It could be as the result of a stroke, a fall, road traffic collision or brain tumour, among many other causes. In an instant, the lives of the person and their family are turned upside down.

1 INTRODUCTION Soils are integral in our fight against the climate crisis, as they store nearly 3000 Pg carbon (C) globally, and these C stocks may be further enhanced through changes in management practices (Sokol et al., 2022). The majority—up to 65%—of SOC is in the mineral-associated organic C (MAOC) pool (Sokol et al., 2022), which is more resistant to microbial decomposition than the particulate organic C (POC) pool (Six et al., 2002).
