PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Asian Arts Initiative presents "Crescendo: How Art Makes Movements (1981-1999)". Joyce Chung curated the exhibition. "Explores the creative explosion that took place within Asian American community, especially in jazz music, that was taking shape in the '80s and '90s," says Chung. She says it was a time when "a lot of musicians engage with activism" to speak up "against racism and discrimination."This is the first historical survey of its kind, based on archives.

"It's by Isaiah Zagar, who's known throughout Philadelphia for the mosaics," says Emily Smith, Executive Director of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. "The space pulls you in."Zagar purchased the former auto repair shop in 2007, transforming it into an immersive art environment. "This was Isaiah's studio, so this was where he was really working a lot," says Smith.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Barnes Foundation partnered with the Dallas Museum of Art to present "Cecily Brown: Themes and Variations.""It brings together some 30 works of Cecily Brown's career," says Simonetta Fraquelli, co-curator of the exhibition. "From her works in the late '90s to recent works, the most recent being 2023.""Saboteur four times" is a painting of Brown's from 2019, which is currently on view in the first room of the exhibition.

UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- Journey Arts is presenting a very special performance featuring four women, each on grand pianos, at Drexel University's Mandell Theater. "Eight Eight Time" features four accomplished female pianists. "It's a musical reference to a time signature, but it's also referencing the incredibly unique setup," says Marla Burkholder, Artistic Director for Journey Arts.
