By late morning it was clear, June 6 was no ordinary Friday in LA. Federal agents arrested people in and around downtown Los Angeles. Some day laborers near a Home Depot in Westlake, others working in the Fashion District at Ambience apparel. The US attorney's office says they had a search warrant related to workers with fake documents. As word about the immigration arrests spread, so did, fear, confusion and outrage.

The Hispanic Federation launched its Los Angeles office Wednesday to support immigrant rights groups like CHIRLA and CIELO, amid ongoing protests in the city. At a press conference in downtown Los Angeles, the groups spoke about some of the fear and uncertainty in immigrant communities. CHIRLA estimates that since Friday, there have been about 300 people detained; however, they said they can't know for sure because they have not been able to speak to those people.

Senior students graduating from Compton High School in California got a VIP surprise as most of them are set to attend colleges in the coming year: Former Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the class of 2025 during the commencement ceremony. The school district said 87% of the 283 graduates at Compton High have been accepted to four or two-year colleges, including UCLA and UC Berkeley. The graduating class has also received about a half a million dollars in scholarships.
