Shire of Murray residents will be slugged on average $57 more on their rates bill this year after the council adopted its 2024-25 budget last week. A rates increase of 3.95 per cent was supported at the special council meeting on Thursday morning and is expected to generate $21.5 million for the shire. The biggest area of spending will be on infrastructure, with $21.9 million allocated to roads, footpaths, bridges and drainage. Your local paper, whenever you want it.

A grieving Mandurah mother says her family is “broken” after her daughter and “the rock of the family” was allegedly killed by a driver under the influence of alcohol. A South Yunderup teenager who says the area does not have enough activities for young people has submitted a petition with hundreds of signatures to the Shire of Murray for a pump track. Austin Lakes resident Rhys Dawson’s 780-signature petition for a pump track or skate park in the area was accepted by the shire council during their July meeting.
