Jenn Henry is now cancer free, but her life changed forever in September 2023, when she was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer. "I had lost 19 pounds in five months without trying, and that was alarming," said Henry, a realtor from Geneva, Illinois. Henry ignored several warning signs leading up to the diagnosis, including rapid weight loss, stomach pain and digestive issues. "I just never had time to take care of myself," she said.

Two sisters are celebrating this holiday season with gratitude, owing to a pair of successful heart transplants received at the same age — just seven years apart. Both sisters underwent the transplants at the same hospital for the same condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which is a heart disease that causes the heart muscle to thicken. Every Tuesday, for last 15 years, Dr. Rebecca Auer could be found in an operating room at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) removing cancer tumours from patients. As a surgeon who treats patients with locally advanced cancer, she knows how difficult the recovery is for patients and how devastating the outcomes can be, even when the cancer is gone. She also knows the power of hope. “I continue to persevere because I truly believe that someday I will no longer need to do this.
