LAUDERDALE CO., Ala. (WAFF) - One person was killed in a wreck involving an 18-wheeler on Wednesday afternoon in Lauderdale County, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Joe Hamilton. Officials say 55-year-old Christopher Calvert was pronounced dead on the scene after his 2003 Ford Ranger struck a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 31-year-old Xaier Collings, was injured and transported to North Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

MORGAN CO., Ala. (WAFF) - Flooded roads are causing issues in Morgan County on Wednesday night, according to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Officials said the flooding began around 5:50 p.m., with all lanes of Alabama 36 near Cut Off Road to Alabama 67 to be closed. The roadway will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Highway Patrol Division are investigating.

LAUDERDALE CO., Ala. (WAFF) - A portion of Highway 20 in Lauderdale County is shut down due to a wreck involving an 18-wheeler on Wednesday, according to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said the incident happened on Highway 20 near County Road 228. Officials also said there is also total road blockage and the roadway is expected to be shut for several hours. Drivers are urged to use County Road 200 as an alternate route.

ELKMONT, Ala. (WAFF) - More charges have been filed against a Limestone County man in connection with the death of 18-year-old Ava Bochnia, according to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Johnathan Etter was arrested on April 18, 2025, in connection with the body of a missing 18-year-old girl being found dead at his home.

ATHENS, Ala. (WAFF) - Two people accused of trafficking 45 pounds of marijuana were arrested on April 18, according to officials with the Athens Police Department on Tuesday. According to the police department, narcotic investigators and the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office started an investigation into David Lee Johnson for Drug Trafficking around one month ago. Police said Johnson, reportedly a truck driver, allegedly used his truck to transport large quantities of marijuana from out of state.
