Council President Jacob Ladner paused public comments after chaos broke out at a meeting last month that led to the arrest of six people. During that meeting, people were upset and demanded action over issues with the Decatur Police Department after the death of Steve Perkins, who was shot by police, and John Scott Jr., who died in a hospital days after his arrest.

LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) - While in a Limestone County Courtroom, a Morgan County man convicted of murder was sentenced for causing a crash that killed a 19-year-old in 2019 on Thursday. In February 2025, Reaford Williams was found guilty of murder for the head-on collision that killed Troy Howard in March 2019. The crash happened on the I-565 exit ramp to County Line Road in 2019, according to Huntsville Police. Howard was on life support for weeks before he died.

Shaniqua Brown was charged with the murder of 20-year-old Jasmine Moore back in 2019. The jury deliberated for just over an hour before delivering the guilty verdict. The two-day trial was filled with twists and turns.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - WAFF has learned new details about a murder case where the lead investigator allegedly had a sexual relationship with the murder suspect. Shaniqua Brown is charged with the murder of Jasmine Moore from back in 2019. Browns attorney Chad Morgan said before trial started this morning that the lead investigator on her case, Julian “Jay” Johnson, and Brown had a sexual relationship long before she was charged with murder, and it went on after her arrest.

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - Morgan County Sheriff Ron Puckett told WAFF he is excited to call up three new deputies from the Morgan County Jail. Two of those former corrections officers are women. Puckett said it’s hard to recruit anyone, let alone women, to work in law enforcement. “In the law enforcement world, females are a minority. It’s very difficult to recruit them,” said Puckett.
