(WAFF) - The family of a teen killed in a fiery Decatur car wreck has filed a lawsuit against the suspect and the restaurants the suspect was allegedly at before the deadly incident, according to newly filed court documents obtained by WAFF. Multiple restaurants that allegedly served a total of 18 drinks to the suspect, Kevin Penich, before he got behind the wheel are all now named in a wrongful death lawsuit.

    DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - The teen suspect charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old outside of Decatur’s Nash BBQ has pleaded guilty, according to the victim’s mother. Officials said Deshaun Lewis, an 18-year-old, was found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of Nash BBQ located on 12th Ave. on Feb. 1, 2025. He was taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The suspect in the case, a 17-year-old, is charged with his murder.

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - An investigation is underway following an armed robbery at a Dollar General in Huntsville on Thursday night. Huntsville police officers told WAFF crews on scene that an armed robbery happened at the location on Highway 72 near County Line Road around 8:50 p.m. WAFF crews say there are around seven to eight police vehicles at the scene. Police said there is no suspect in custody at this time. Police told WAFF there are no reported injuries. This is a developing story.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West identified the victim as 22-year-old William D. Hardrick, of Birmingham. Court documents filed in Limestone County show John McAdams is charged with murder in connection with Hardrick’s death. He’s also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and DUI.
