Sophie Hansson, 25, is representing Sweden in her third consecutive Olympic appearance, but she is showing her Wolfpack pride. Hansson, who swam at North Carolina State University, has finished competing in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter breaststroke and has a chance for a medal in the 4x100 medley on Sunday. Hansson began swimming at a young age because her father is a swimming coach in Sweden. Hansson said her father was adamant that she and her sister learn all four strokes.

Field hockey midfielder and University of North Carolina (UNC) graduate Meredith Sholder didn't know until June that she would be part of the Olympic team. According to Sholder’s mother, there were about 28 field hockey players who were in contention for a spot on a 16-athlete roster. Sholder spent the months of January to June anticipating the release of the finalized roster.

A woman who called Seattle police after being assaulted on a downtown street in broad daylight said an officer didn’t respond to her 911 call until hours later — and that she never spoke to them face-to-face. The woman, Grace, called the Seattle Police Department’s (SPD) response “disappointing” after she was approached by an unknown man while walking toward the Macrina Bakery & Café in the Belltown neighborhood on First Avenue on April 26.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers will now be paying more for natural gas and electrical service, as a new rate increase took effect Wednesday. According to PSE, a typical residential electric customer will now see an average monthly bill increase of $4.11. A typical residential natural gas customer will see an average monthly increase of $7.68. Those are higher numbers than previous estimates from last year, which indicated a less than $2 bump for either service.

Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers are investigating a possible homicide in the city’s Brighton neighborhood. Shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday, police officers responded to a call and located a dead 20-year-old woman inside a home in the 4600 block of South Orchard Street near South Beacon Hill. A 58-year-old man was arrested for homicide and booked into King County Jail. Additionally, he was treated for injuries by the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) and transported to Harborview Medical Center.
