    Bernie Jones said the restoration project had been a "tricky job"A canal warehouse designed by 19th Century engineer Thomas Telford could open as a cafe and meeting place in the summer. It is one of two listed buildings at Wappenshall Junction in Shropshire being restored by volunteers from the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust. The project began 23 years ago and there is a plan to turn the other building into a museum, to tell the story of the famous civil engineer.

    The engineer leading repairs to a railway embankment has said the landslip there is the biggest he has faced in his career. Adam Checkley from Network Rail said 12,000 tonnes of stone would be needed for the work between Wellington and Oakengates in Shropshire. The collapse last week led to the closure of the Shrewsbury to Birmingham line.

The Environment Agency said it is talking to the operators of the Granville site on Grange Lane in Telford, Shropshire, after receiving complaints. The councillor for the area, Nigel Dugmore, said it was important to confirm if the landfill site was the cause of the smell and if there were any health implications.

    A construction firm is hoping to pull off a DIY-SOS style project to complete a wellbeing garden for soldiers. R1 Construction stepped in to help when the original contractors for the job at the Clive Barracks, Shropshire, failed to complete the work. Staff have been donating their time to get the work done and the company has appealed for financial donations and for supplies.
