    The Black SC Family Reunion is USC’s way to celebrate the end of Black History Month. From 12 to 4 p.m. at Founders Park, the event was filled with food, music and lively people. The theme was centered around empowering excellence, and celebrating Black history through the arts. The event offered support for Black owned businesses, by incorporating local vendors for their guests to enjoy.

    Bryan Fernandez has won position of USG president alongside new vice president Brianna Sanchez. Fernandez and Sanchez had a close race with runners-up, Sam Stack and Christian Shaw. Ultimately, Fernandez and Sanchez pulled ahead in the final rankings of over 4,000 ballets. Fernandez and Sanchez express that they plan to focus their attention to C.A.R.E for their students, an acronym that stands for community, accessibility, representation, and equity.

    Lunar New Year begins this Saturday. People across the world celebrate to commemorate the beginning of the new year on the Lunar calendar and the arrival of spring. There are 12 animals on the Chinese zodiac, and each one is associated with a new year. This year is the Year of the Dragon, which symbolizes power, nobility and good luck. The Lunar New Year is accompanied by a variety of traditions and lively celebrations, many of which surround the Chinese legend of a monster named Nian.

    Senior Candace House took time away from her studies as a Business of Cinematic Arts major to co-found the Black Career Fair last year. She says the goal of the fair is to make the job search more accessible for Black students at USC. Candace House: We really need a space for Black students to get to meet Black recruiters, as opposed to going to the everyday fairs and only getting to meet recruiters for a second.

    Assembly Bill No. 873, set to take effect at the start of the next academic year, will enforce the teaching of media literacy across K-12 schools in California. With the rise of social media and subsequent “fake news” consumed by the public, the bill aims to educate young students on the importance of critical thinking regarding news, media and other digital evaluation skills. The bill, originally introduced by assemblymember Marc Berman, was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October.
