It starts with a word. Each issue of Added to the File (ATTF), Georgetown’s first student-run fashion magazine, is based off of a one-word theme. Lindsay Khalluf (CAS ’26), the magazine’s creative director, started last semester by writing the theme for the third issue—“Reprise”—on a chalkboard to brainstorm ideas. “For like two hours straight, I think everyone just said every single thought that popped into their mind,” Khalluf said.

D.C. has long been a home for mom and pop bookstores, often nestled in the nooks and crannies of the city. Sooner or later, every District bookworm becomes familiar friends with the likes of Capitol Hill Books, Busboys and Poets, and Second Story Books. On Labor Day, one more store joined the city’s lineup of iconic bookshops: JF Books, D.C.’s first and only Chinese-language bookstore.

Last semester, the Georgetown Earth Commons Institute, the university’s hub for environmental research and advocacy, launched Nature Rx. Nature Rx is an initiative aiming to transform student mental health by encouraging students to spend time in outside. More than 10 years ago, a group of doctors with the National Parks Service in D.C., inspired by the researched benefits of exposure to nature for mental health, launched Nature Rx to alleviate student mental health concerns.
