Ron and Russell Mael are that rarest of all breeds, the Los Angeles native. The brothers came of age in the 1960s on L.A.’s Westside — decades before it was “310” or west of the 405 Freeway — because the north/south artery hadn’t yet been built. A sporty upbringing of beach volleyball, AM radio tuned to 93 KHJ, and Palisades High School football (for Russell) belie the intellectual cool-cult status the band has held for decades.

From “Shambles” To Stadiums, “From Zero” To Hero: A Superstar Band With New Members Returns To The Global Stage (s)“Show, don’t tell” is a mantra that’s served Linkin Park well. The M.O. worked literal wonders over the last year: On Sept. 5, 2024, via an incredibly out-of-the-box livestream, the band surprised fans across the world with its return after a seven-year absence and introduced a new, preternaturally talented co-lead singer Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain.

Precious few bands can fill a stadium 52 years into their career. Much less play to an audience heavily populated by parents and their teens/tweens, both generations cheering for 77-year-old singer Brian Johnson and white-haired guitar icon Angus Young, 70. While decked out in flashing red devil horn headbands, no less.

My thoughts on @acdc writ large for the @latimes wish I could have stood near @axlrose to hear his take on his one time bandmates… @TPROfficial are a great band and were the perfect openers! @taylormomsen is genuine rock ‘n’ roll.

AC/DC bring high voltage rock & roll hits to the masses at the Rose Bowl https://t.co/gvfSg3F4qs
