    UKIAH, CA., 5/8/25 — A woman died after she fell down and was hit by a car Monday afternoon at a gas station parking lot in Ukiah, police said. The collision was reported shortly after 3 p.m. at a convenience store gas station in the 1100 block of Airport Park Boulevard. It was initially reported as a hit-and-run collision, but when police arrived the driver was still at the scene. Officers found the woman lying on the ground in a parking stall in front of the business.

    The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner this week confirmed the county’s first overdose death due to carfentanil, a drug 100 times more potent than fentanyl. A 39-year-old man was found dead last week with fake M30 pills made to look like prescription oxycodone. The medical examiner warned that M30 pills may be laced with carfentanil, which is a synthetic opioid that is 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more potent than fentanyl.

    A dead gray whale that washed ashore in Alameda over the weekend will be towed to Angel Island to be examined by scientists, officials with The Marine Mammal Center said. The whale is believed to be an adult female gray whale that was previously sighted on Thursday at a different location along the Alameda’s shoreline, near the USS Hornet Museum.
