The tariffs took effect at midnight Wednesday, before Trump announced a 90-day pause on the stiffest tariffs — except those on China — later in the day. Tariffs on Chinese imports will rise to 125%, he said. Economists at Goldman Sachs increased the odds of a U.S. recession to 45%, up from 35% last week.
