The assault on Durham prison officers by Manchester bombing plotter Hashem Abedi has been branded a "catastrophic failure" of duty, by one of the bomb survivors. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has announced it will conduct an investigation following the incident at HMP Frankland in County Durham last Saturday, where three guards were assaulted with hot oil and makeshift weapons.

Thousands of fans have packed out Newcastle city centre to watch Newcastle United's players pass by on an open top bus as part of the Carabao Cup victory parade. Major roads in the heart of Newcastle were closed off so fans could get as close as possible to the winners' bus as it travelled from St James' Park to the Town Moor. A sea of black and white covered the entire route as the city celebrated the win and the club's first domestic trophy in 70 years.
