The remains of Amanda King, 27, were found in the Burden Pond Preserve in Troy, near Campbell Avenue, on Oct. 20, 2024, according to Troy Police Assistant Chief Steven Barker. A local resident stumbled upon the remains, leading police to the scene. Now, investigators are asking for the public’s help in piecing together how King’s remains ended up in Troy and what led to her death.

According to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh, the five were taken down in Spring Valley, Haverstraw, and Ramapo. The investigation, led by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, culminated in the arrests of Jose Pena of Garnerville, Mario Amaya of Spring Valley, Daquan Leary of Suffern, Eric Hayden of Pomona, and Jonathan Albizures of Spring Valley, said Scott Waters, spokesman for the DA's Office.

Khiyan Bascus, age 22, of New Windsor, was also charged with attempted assault, assault, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence, said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler. Court documents allege that on Thursday, Jan. 2, around 9:10 a.m., Bascus attacked a relative who was asleep at a residence in the town of New Windsor. Without provocation, court documents show, he allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with multiple knives, inflicting wounds to the face and chest.

New Windsor Police Chief Daniel Valeri said officers responded to the facility on Hudson Valley Avenue around 9:25 a.m. after receiving a report of an assault. Officers found a 36-year-old man with a significant neck laceration. Valeri said the suspect, Loryn-Yael Gardner-Lawery, 27, of Middletown, was located nearby and matched the victim's description. He was taken into custody without incident.

Roberto Minuta, age 39, currently of Prosper, Texas, was arrested in March 2021 at his Newburgh tattoo shop in Orange County and sentenced in June 2023 to 54 months in prison, followed by 36 months of supervised release for his part in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riots.
