Horror as a genre is undoubtedly indebted to its scores and soundtracks, with many going on to influence music outside of film. While some films use extravagant and complex scores, others opt for minimal audio or even complete silence. Both of which have an equally chilling effect. As an avid horror fan, I’m always paying close attention to the music and the role it plays in striking fear in its audience.

On 27 October 2023, exactly nine years after the original album dropped, Taylor Swift released her fourth re-recording, this time of her fifth studio album 1989 and it’s been a long time coming (pun absolutely intended). This re-release was hinted at for some time, with fans suspecting that it was in the works after ‘Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)’ was dropped in November 2021, before Red (Taylor’s Version) came out.

Known for her ‘Taylor Swift-esque’ lyrics and catchy break-up songs, Maisie Peters has been on the rise for some time now. However, her following has grown exponentially since the release of her latest album, The Good Witch, which rocketed to Number One in the UK charts in June 2023, a review of which can be found here! Having been a fan of Peters since her first album You Signed Up for This, I was beyond excited to see her perform in Leeds.

When I heard that Blur had released their new album The Ballad of Darren this July, I did not rush to listen to it. Perhaps understandably, I thought they would have ‘lost’ something of what they were, or would be trying to recreate something that was lost to the chaos of the nineties.
