Nearly 10 months after filing for bankruptcy, Heart of the Valley YMCA has announced a new president and CEO. Rob Gray, who until recently was the CEO of Bath Area Family YMCA in Maine, is set to take charge of Huntsville YMCA beginning Aug. 11, according to a statement from Huntsville YMCA. Gray will take over from interim CEO Jeff Collen and brings more than 30 years of experience in senior leadership at YMCAs across the country.

Huntsville Hospital CEO Jeff Samz is not a fan of the Leapfrog Group’s national patient safety report, which gave the northern Alabama institution the worst possible overall grade in its spring 2025 report. The report assigns grades using federal government data and hospital surveys. In an interview with AL.com, Samz said he does not see the value “in regurgitating what the federal government” has made publicly available.

College sports create belonging, togetherness and generate memories. For the schools, it also generates revenue from ticket sales to events. At Alabama A&M University state audits show the school has had a problem the past two decades with keeping track of the tickets they sell to its sporting events. Because of that, Bulldog fans at all sporting events beginning this fall will see a change in the way they buy their tickets.

More than 200,000 people in Huntsville will have restricted movement this summer as the housing authority imposes a curfew at its facilities. A copy of a lease addendum dated June 5 and reviewed by AL.com says the curfew begins Monday until Sept. 30. Residents must sign the document by 5 p.m. Monday. The authority said this week it was imposing a curfew on the LR Patton Community after a shooting last week killed one person and left another injured.

The Huntsville Housing Authority has imposed a curfew at the LR Patton community following two shooting incidents last week that left one person dead and another injured, according to a news release. “While investigations are ongoing, HHA is taking immediate steps to enhance security and restore a sense of safety within the community,” the housing authority said in a statement Monday.
