    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A tractor-trailer driver died, and his passenger suffered serious injuries after a Thursday morning crash on US 69 Highway north of West 207th Street in Johnson County. The driver, Eugene Merrell, 48, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt tractor-trailer truck north on US 69 Highway at 7:18 a.m. when the accident occurred, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Westbound I-70 west of I-470 is closed because of an overturned tractor-trailer. The Missouri Highway Patrol says the semi overturned about 1:30 a.m.The Highway Patrol says there are injuries, but the extent is unknown at this time. MSHP believes the road will be closed for hours. In addition to westbound I-70, the 291 southbound exit to I-70 westbound, as well as the northbound I-470 exit to I-70 westbound are closed.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Several police agencies are investigating a road rage and crash incident Friday afternoon in Jackson County. At 12:45 p.m., Lee's Summit police were dispatched to the area of northbound Interstate 470 near northeast Lakewood Way on a report of shots fired. Police said people in two vehicles exchanged gunfire. Officers made contact with the drivers of both vehicles in another jurisdiction after an accident. Both drivers are currently in custody.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A heavy fire caused by a large pile of scrap metal and debris at a scrapyard in east Kansas City, Missouri, sent a plume of smoke into the air Saturday afternoon. KCFD responded to the fire at 8100 Wilson Avenue at 2:15 p.m. At the moment, fire crews are working to extinguish the pile with the assistance of the scrapyard equipment operator. They are also using machinery to pull the pile apart and apply water.
