The WPIAL baseball playoffs are set, and a handful of teams will be trying to make it to a championship game for the third year in a row, while one is seeking a fourth consecutive title game appearance. The WPIAL released playoff pairings and seedings Friday, and the postseason begins Monday with a few preliminary-round games. First-round games begin Monday.

If you look at the rich tradition of WPIAL softball, you will see there are only a handful of teams that won four consecutive titles. Swissvale, which is now part of Woodland Hills, became the first when it took the first four Class 2A titles ever contested from 1979-82. Baldwin became the first to accomplish the feat in the highest classification from 1993-96. Sto-Rox became the first to win five in a row a year following the split to three classes when the Vikings won from 2000-04.
