A Clark County Superior Court judge has advanced efforts to recall a Camas city councilor facing a felony assault charge. Judge Tsering Cornell presided over a May 1 hearing to determine if charges included in a recall petition against Councilor John Svilarich were legally and factually sufficient. She later ruled that four of the seven charges are able to move forward. On April 8, 10 Camas voters filed a petition to recall Svilarich from his at-large Camas City Council position.

A Camas business known for its music lessons is quickly becoming a “one-stop shop” for youth art classes in east Clark County. Music instructor Rob Melton, 55, of Vancouver, opened his first Opus School of Music — now the Opus School of the Arts — in Ridgefield in 2006. Nine years later, he launched a second location in Camas, transforming a nondescript building near the Camas Safeway into a colorful spot for budding musicians as young as 2 years old.

Construction is still in full swing at Camas’ historic Crown Park, but city leaders say the end of the extensive, $6.3 million park remodeling project is finally in sight. “We hope to have all of the improvements on the east side done by the end of May and, hopefully, can open the playground and sport court in July,” interim Camas Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Rachal told the Camas Parks Commission on Friday.
