    The city of Portsmouth is considering a budget proposal that would increase the tax rate and make cuts to public safety. The proposal would cut three officers and a dispatcher at the Portsmouth Police Department at a time when Chief Mark Newport says the department is already facing staffing challenges. The proposed budget is nearly $150 million and includes an estimated tax increase of almost 3.5%. It would cut about 15 full-time jobs in the city, four of them at the police department.

    IN BEDFORD, AND BOTH OF THEM WERE THROWN FROM THE CAR AROUND ONE THIS MORNING. POLICE SAY A FOOD DELIVERY ON CLIFFORD AVENUE IN MANCHESTER ENDED WITH THE DRIVER’S CAR BEING STOLEN BY A 13 YEAR OLD BOY. A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS ALSO IN THE CAR ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER THAT. ONE OF OUR OFFICERS SPOTTED THE VEHICLE. THE BOY DIDN’T STOP, BUT POLICE CALLED THE PURSUIT OFF AFTER SPEEDS REACHED 85 MILES AN HOUR AND WAS HEADED TOWARDS ANOTHER DEPARTMENT’S JURISDICTION.
