A grandmother has been arrested after two children were found dead during a welfare check. The bodies of two boys, aged six and seven, were found in a home on Emu Lane in Coonabarabran just after 2pm on Monday, following reports of a concern for welfare. A woman, 66, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital for further assessment where she remains under hospital guard. The woman and children were known to each other, police said. There is no ongoing threat to the community.

A boy has died after being pulled unconscious from a waterhole in Sydney’s west. Emergency services were called to Bents Basin following reports a seven-year-old boy being unresponsive after being pulled from the water at 5.15pm on Saturday. Members of the public performed CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and took over. The boy was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.
