COVINGTON, La. (WVUE) - Three Slidell teens have been indicted on charges accusing them of killing a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy three months ago, District Attorney Collin Sims’ office said. A St. Tammany grand jury on Tuesday (June 3) returned an indictment charging 17-year-olds Adrian Waughtal and Mason Fischer with second-degree murder and 18-year-old Michael Lanier with manslaughter, in connection with the death of Sgt. Grant Candies.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Louisiana Supreme Court on Wednesday (June 4) ordered all judges in the state to undergo training on running “trauma-informed courts” and learning best practices for domestic violence cases. The order, effective immediately, requires Louisiana judges to attend a one-hour training session every other year. The seminars will be offered by the Louisiana Judicial College and Louisiana Protective Order Registry.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The man who notoriously dragged a Waggaman woman to her death during a botched carjacking three years ago in Mid-City has had his first bid for a lighter sentence denied by a Louisiana appellate court. John Honore, 20, sought relief after being sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years, for murdering 73-year-old Linda Frickey on March 21, 2022.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) - Three more escapees from the Orleans Justice Center jail were recaptured Monday outside of New Orleans. Lenton VanBuren Jr. was caught Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced. Fellow fugitives Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were apprehended in Walker County, Texas, just north of Houston, Louisiana State Police confirmed.
