PITTSBURGH – The table was set for the Braves Sunday to reach .500 for the first time this season. They had reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale on the mound. They were facing a Pittsburgh Pirates starter with a hefty ERA. Win, even the record, take the series against a careening team and enjoy Mother’s Day. Hopefully, the last objective was accomplished, because the other three were not.

PITTSBURGH — While recognizing the decision is not his, Braves ace Spencer Strider declared himself ready to come back from his right hamstring strain Sunday after a bullpen session at PNC Park on Saturday. “I feel good to go, but admittedly, I haven’t pitched in three weeks, so I won’t be shocked if they don’t feel comfortable about running me out there,” said Strider, eager to get going after elbow surgery cut short his 2024.

PITTSBURGH – This may sound familiar. The Braves won in extra innings and they’re in position to reach .500 with a win. By a 3-2 score, the Braves improved to 5-0 in extra-inning games this season with an 11-inning win Saturday over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sunday, they will have their fifth chance to even their record, the first four of which have been unsuccessful. Pittsburgh won the first game of the series at PNC Park Friday night by the same 3-2 score.

PITTSBURGH – Ozzie Albies’ search for an answer was in high gear Saturday afternoon. Struggling through quite arguably the poorest start in his nine-year career, the Braves veteran second baseman took batting practice at PNC Park under the eye of hitting coach Tim Hyers. At one point, Hyers huddled with Albies, demonstrating a high leg kick. The idea, Hyers told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution after the pregame session, was for Albies to gather his body and be aggressive in his swing.

PITTSBURGH — The Braves’ return to .500 will have to wait for at least two more days. One night after an electrifying 11-inning home win, the Braves were thwarted Friday night by a Pittsburgh Pirates team that was playing its first game following manager Derek Shelton’s firing after the team’s 12-26 start. At PNC Park, Pittsburgh ended its seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 win for new manager Don Kelly. The Braves are 18-20.

Players using pink cleats and bats today. Orlando Arcia’s cleats and Michael Harris II’s bats. I asked Harris what he was going to do with them. He said he’d probably use them in BP. He gave his mother La Taucha his first Mother’s Day bat and additional ones would just stack up. https://t.co/4ZnP7aa9Y9

Daysbel Hernandez warming up for Braves with Pirates at bat in B8. Interesting.

Not sure what to make of a mascot race without flying drop kicks. Mrs. T’s pierogies at PNC Park has best not venture to Truist. https://t.co/Rvefkfcf48
