AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Local leaders are headed in opposite directions when it comes to property taxes. The Augusta Commission is rolling the rate back, while the Board of Education wants to increase it. The commission decided Tuesday on a rollback on millage rates. Under the new rates, there would be no change in the tax bill for a $200,00 house, according to documents presented at Tuesday’s Augusta Commission meeting.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Thursday was a big day for Golden Harvest as it cut the ribbon on its new produce rescue center. Volunteers then went straight to work, handling fresh produce for hundreds of hunger relief organizations in the area. The project is two years in the making and is set to help Golden Harvest become a hub for community care. It helps 25 local counties and 350 hunger relief programs. “It’s an incredible accomplishment,” said President and CEO of Golden Harvest Amy Breitmann.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - If you use the North Augusta Greeneway, heads up — a large part of the walkway is closed the rest of the week. At the Martintown Road bridge, there are barricades blocking off the bridge. There is also a sign saying the Greeneway is closed from Martintown Road to Knotty Pine Drive. And that’s because they say it was a safety hazard. Trees were uprooting the asphalt and causing people to trip. But the Greeneway will soon have a smoother look.

Officials say the shooting happened at Cornbreads Club on the 700 Block of Matthews Road outside of Tennille, Ga. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released the statement early Sunday morning. BELVEDERE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who was caught on camera and may have been a witness to a daytime shooting in Belvedered that killed a 27-year-old man at a busy commercial intersection. The shooting July 17 killed James L. Wright Jr. near 356 Edgefield Road. A 911 caller reported hearing gunfire while inside a store. Authorities found Wright on the ground between two buildings.
