A high school baseball player hitting multiple home runs during a season isn't exactly run of the mill. St. Joseph senior center fielder Erik Furness homered 10 times during the 2025 campaign. Furness hit .323 and had 24 RBIs for a St. Joseph team that finished 24-8, won the Mountain League championship by four games and made it to the CIF Central Section Division 1 championship game. Furness, the Mountain League MVP, is also the MVP of the 2025 Times All-Area Baseball team.

The Santa Maria Lady Saints 8U All-Stars softball team has qualified for the California State Games that will take place in San Diego in July. The Lady Saints went 5-0 at the Morro Bay Coastal Summer Slam and won the 8U Division tournament championship. The Santa Maria squad won an age division title at the Paso Robles Swing into Summer Tournament then went 2-2 at a state games qualifying tournament at Lakeview Junior High School last weekend to advance to the state games.

The 10th annual Cabrillo High School Alumni Hall of Fame Induction/Dinner Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1 at the Cabrillo cafeteria. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m., with the dinner and program beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
