Syracuse, N.Y. — After a rainy week of Section III baseball, three new squads emerged in the top five of their respective classes. Watertown is the new No. 5 in Class A, Morrisville-Eaton is No. 5 in C and Alexandria is No. 5 in D. The top teams this week are still Baldwinsville in AAA, West Genesee in AA, Jamesville-DeWitt in A, Bishop Ludden in B, Beaver River in C and Oriskany in D. Rankings will be revealed on Mondays until the end of sectionals. Here’s this week’s top five for each class:1.

Syracuse.com asked Section III‘s baseball coaches who they think is their midseason MVP. Here are the responses we got. “Our only sophomore has won our first two games against Dolgeville and Clinton. He threw a complete seven-inning game against Clinton. He also plays SS and bats second. He is currently batting .292 with a .393 OBP.

Syracuse, N.Y. — The weather hasn’t cooperated for baseball this week. Still, two games were played at NBT Stadium on Thursday for the Strike Out Lou Gehrig’s Disease Classic. It’s the 18th year for the event in the Syracuse area. Event chair Thomas Brown says the hope this year is to raise at least $50,000 to donate to the local chapter of the ALS Association. Brown said he believes that number is attainable with the expansion of the event in the Rochester and Buffalo areas.

Syracuse, N.Y. — The New York State Sportswriters Association has released the Class AAA, AA, A girls basketball all-state teams for the 2024-25 season. Section III athletes were well represented, with 27 players receiving honors. Utica Notre Dame’s Ella Trinkaus earned the highest honors, being named to Class A’s first team. A’briyah Cunningham from Liverpool was Section III’s highest-honored Class AAA player, making the second team.
