A San Rafael man lobbying the Tamalpais Union High School District to launch a girls flag football program says it is violating federal discrimination law by failing to approve a team this spring. “It is shameful that in a place like Marin County — known for claiming to lead on equity — we have a superintendent who refuses to stand up for young women’s civil rights,” said Mark Gilbert, whose daughter Ellie plays on the Terra Linda High School girls flag football team.

Supporters of the Horizon Community School in Marin City are celebrating the completion of its new $2.7 million campus. The program plans an opening event from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday for families, donors, community leaders and other guests. The 9,871-square-foot preschool, designed to serve up to 60 children from ages 2 to 5, was built over the past year at a former vacant lot behind St. Andrew Presbyterian Church at 140 Drake Ave.

Measure E needs two-thirds, or 66.67%, approval by voters in order to pass.

With all precincts counted in the mail-in special election results, the parcel tax measure had 3,290 yes votes, or 59.86%, compared to 2,206 no votes, or 40.14%. Measure E needs two-thirds, or 66.67%, approval by voters in order to pass. Measure E would replace the former flat tax per parcel system with a per-square-foot parcel tax.
Judge grants injunction on Marin Catholic field lights

A judge has issued an injunction halting the stadium lights project at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield. Judge Sheila Shah Lichtblau’s ruling in Marin County Superior Court prohibits construction of any kind at the school stadium while a trial is pending in a related lawsuit. But the school can apply for building permits or order materials and equipment, according to the ruling.
