    Hays school district voters have approved $962.3 million in bond projects for local schools, including building a fourth traditional high school for the growing area and the purchase of 30 new school buses with seat belts. The $498.9 million Proposition A to renovate campuses and to buy new buses got 60% of the 2,569 votes. The $396 million Proposition B to build the new high school got 56.8% of the 2,566 votes.

Mott, who has an elementary school named after her, has held her seat since 2004. Yañez got 65% of the 2,888 votes while Mott got 35%. In Places 3 and 5, incumbents Renae Mitchell and Kelly Daniel prevailed over their challengers, Trish Smith and Lee R. Wallace, respectively.

    7:24 p.m., Harris leads 3-way race for Bastrop mayorIshmael Harris was leading a three-way special election to be Bastrop's next mayor after early voting results were counted Saturday. Harris had 45.4% of the vote, with Willie DeLaRosa in second at 36.3% and Ward Northcutt at 18.3%. The three are running to replace former Mayor Lyle Nelson, who resigned from his term in January. The winner will serve the remainder of Nelson’s term, which expires in May 2026.

    Several school districts in Central Texas have announced early releases for school or the cancellation of after-school activities after threats of severe weather in the area. A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for a swath of Central Texas, including Travis and Williamson counties, with the possibility of tornadoes, hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service. The service predicts the main risks to residents is large to very large hail and damaging wind gusts.

    The Texas Education Agency has given the Austin school district until June 30 to create a plan to turn around Dobie Middle School's academic performance, according to a letter sent to families Wednesday night. The extended deadline, originally set for April 30, gives Austin school administrators two more months to decide the best option for students at the Northeast Austin middle school, which has failed to meet state academic standards for multiple consecutive years.
