Tucked inside the House Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act are more than 15 of President Trump’s executive orders, potentially giving his major policy shifts the full weight of federal law and making it much harder for a future Democrat in the White House to reverse them. The more than 1,000-page bill includes Mr. Trump’s orders for immigration and the border, the tax code, education, energy, the military, the judiciary, health services and entitlement programs.

President Trump’s Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought is condemning the Government Accountability Office for saying the Transportation Department’s pause on funding of a Biden-era electric vehicle charging program is illegal. The GAO determined that the DOT’s impoundment of congressionally approved funds goes against the 1974 law known as the “Impoundment Act” that limits a president’s ability to impede or block money appropriated by Congress.

Senate Republicans said Thursday that they are eager to delve into President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” and begin to make their own changes to the House-passed legislation by the July 4 weekend. Republicans, who control the Senate with a 53-47 seat majority, will deploy their legislation through the budget reconciliation process as a way to avoid needing 60 votes and thus Democratic support.

Some of the group members remain opposed to the bill because they do not believe it goes far enough to reduce federal spending on Medicaid for able-bodied adults or act fast enough to repeal clean energy tax credits.
