Her resignation follows two recent City Council closed session reviews of her performance, on Tuesday, April 22, and Tuesday. May 5. The two closed sessions lasted over five hours, after which interim City Attorney Todd Leishman announced the council had taken no action that required reporting to the public under the Brown Act.

    by Kevin Cody The Hermosa Beach City Council sat poker-faced during Monday night’s special council meeting while listening to interim City Attorney Todd Leishman deliver his closed session report. The report followed an hour long closed session, which was a continuation of a two hour long closed session at the Council’s April 22 meeting. The subject was whether or not to fire City Manager Suja Lowenthal. Last month’s closed session was preceded by two hours of public comments.

The first and oldest of this year’s four inductees was the underrecognized, hugely influential Tak Kawahara. Kawahara grew up in Santa Monica and owned CHP (California and Hawaiian Promotions) Surf Shop in Redondo Beach in the late ‘90s.
