    A Calgary theatre company is getting requests from zoos all over North America to make them lifelike animal puppets. Dean Bareham, founder and artistic director of the Green Fools Theatre, has been creating puppets of all sizes since 1991. He’s developed a partnership with the Calgary Zoo over the last three years to help shine a light on endangered species through puppets.

Technicians gather information from the field and real time data is also sent back to river forecasters electronically from several remote sensors.     Calgary is hosting some of the best amateur pianists in the world at two weekend concerts. Les Amateurs Virtuoses Piano Festival is bringing together amateur pianists from France, Japan, the United States and Canada. This is the first time the event is being hosted in a North American city. The performers are made up of international competition-winning artists who have pursued successful careers outside of music and manage to find time to work and perform at the highest levels.

    MINI THNI - Drew Van Allen is in his 10th year as music teacher at Nakoda Elementary School, west of Calgary but this year turned out to be a little bit more special than all the rest. At the end of March, Van Allen and five other teachers from all across Canada were nominated at the Junos for the 2025 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award. Van Allen didn’t win but says it was an honour to be recognized.

    Dancers at Alberta’s Edge School are heading to Tampa, Fla., later this month to compete in the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), a competition featuring dancers from around the world. Edge School dancers earned a place in the finals after strong performances in the semi-finals in Kansas City, Mo., in February. “The Youth America Grand Prix is the largest scholarship opportunity in the world for dance students,” said Caitlin Lockwood, principal of the ballet program at Edge School.
