The province is urging ranchers and farmers to register the location of their livestock ahead of wildfire season. It says registering with Premises ID will ensure emergency responders have access to accurate information on livestock locations in the event of an emergency. That would allow emergency responders to act quickly during events such as evacuations or disease outbreaks. The ministry says registering for Premises ID is mandatory in B.C., but is both free and confidential.

Both the City of Kamloops and the Thompson Nicola Regional District are set to test their emergency alert systems. City of KamloopsThe City of Kamloops will issue a city-wide test alert on May 8, 2025, through its emergency notification system, Voyent Alert!. Depending on the type of messaging each individual has registered for, the test alert will go out by SMS text, phone call, email, and notification through the app.

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is releasing images of two suspects who allegedly robbed a person, then tried, but failed to steal their vehicle Sunday morning. On May 4, 2025, just before 6 a.m., police received a report of a robbery that had occurred approximately one hour earlier, on the 500-block of Victoria Street. Around 5 a.m., a person was in their vehicle in a parking lot, when they were allegedly approached by two masked men.

The Kamloops-Thompson School Board is moving forward with its 2025/2026 budget which includes a reduction of 25.5 full time equivalent (FTE) teaching positions along with 46.5 FTE support staff positions. Superintendent Rhonda Nixon says the changes will primarily affecting district-level teachers and secondary school allocations. Nixon explains what an FTE is. “It can be blocks of time, not people.
