Authorities in Kernersville are asking members of the public to stay away from the West Mountain Street area as crews work to extinguish a large scrap metal fire at the OmniSource recycling center. The Kernersville Fire Rescue confirmed the fire in a Facebook post shortly after 5:30 p.m Sunday. "Firefighters are working diligently to bring the fire under control," according to the post.

More than 1,000 people gathered in downtown Greensboro to chant, wave signs and march in opposition to the polices of President Donald Trump. The protest was concentrated on West Market Street, with lines of demonstrators stretching along the sidewalk from South Elm-Eugene Street almost to Elm Street. Protesters also filled much of the space in front of the old courthouse.

Greensboro has added cameras to some of its recycling trucks as part of a pilot program aimed at reducing the amount of garbage in the recycling. Starting in February, the city added the new technology to three of its 10 recycling trucks which will be covering 12 routes throughout the city. The Greensboro City Council accepted $50,000 grant from the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, with the city chipping in the remaining $10,000 to fund the $60,000 program.

Sculptures of baseball players and former Greensboro Grasshoppers bat dogs were installed by First National Bank Field on Wednesday, the first step in a larger art project aimed at creating a baseball diamond outside the ballpark. The sculptures put in place at the intersection of Eugene and Bellemeade streets feature an umpire, a second baseman, third baseman and likenesses of three former Grasshoppers bat dogs, Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra and Lou Lou Gehrig.
