    Winston-Salem police are investigating a shooting which left one man injured late Friday. Officers were called to the 200 block of Plaza Hollow Drive, where they found 20-year-old Brian Almaguer-Gutierrez suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the department. Almaguer-Gutierrez is hospitalized in stable condition, according to police. Police have not released any information a suspect or suspects. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the department 336-773-7700.

    A Greensboro developer said he aims to purchase city-owned land in downtown with the goal of creating a new commercial and housing development. The end result, Andy Zimmerman of AZ Development, said could be the beginning of a new innovation district. Zimmerman said he is moving forward with an offer to purchase the 3-acre lot at 734 S. Elm St. which is currently owned by the Redevelopment Commission of Greensboro. Zimmerman said he hopes to submit an offer for the purchase by the end of next week.

From a series of disturbances which drew the attention of police and first responders to conflicts over funding with city officials, leaders at the IRC often found themselves adopting a defensive posture.

    Greensboro Deputy City Manager Chris Wilson is retiring after nearly 33 years with the city. His final day on the job will be June 30, the city announced late Tuesday. Wilson began his career in Greensboro in 1992 working for the parks and recreation department. He spent more than 20 years with the department, becoming its director in 2012. In 2013, he was promoted to assistant city manager. He was named deputy city manager in 2022.

    Authorities in Kernersville are asking members of the public to stay away from the West Mountain Street area as crews work to extinguish a large scrap metal fire at the OmniSource recycling center. The Kernersville Fire Rescue confirmed the fire in a Facebook post shortly after 5:30 p.m Sunday. "Firefighters are working diligently to bring the fire under control," according to the post.
